The entire Tamil film industry gathered at the Chepauk grounds condemning the attack on Tamils in Karnataka following the Hogenakkal issue on April 4th 2008. The Kollywood Hunger strike protesting the attack on theatres in Karanataka that screen Tamil movies, received support from every member of the Tamil Cinema fraternity.Rajinikanth, Vijaykanth, Kamal Haasan, Radharavi, Vijaykumar, Sathyaraj, Mohan, Manorama, T.R. Rajender, Producer Ramnarayan, Sripriya, Saranya, Ajith, Vijay, Vishal, Trisha, Nayantara, Sandya, Jayaram, Silambarasan, Dhanush, Suriya, Sneha Prabhu, Prashanth, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vadivelu, Vasu, Senthil, Santhanam, Sibiraj, Ashwin Shekar, P. Vasu and son Shakthi, Prasanna, Narain, Riteish, director Hari, Delhi Ganesh, Bharath, Raju Sundaram, Chandrashekar, Arjun, Priyamani, Murali, S.J. Suryah, M.S. Bhaskar, Ramrajan, Anandraj, Karthi, Kalaipuli G. Shekar, Vindhya and every member of the film fraternity was present.

The fast was broken by lyricist Vaali and subsequently all of us present at the Chepauk grounds broke the fast.

I wish to thank the entire film fraternity for supporting this cause.

The trailer of my next film 1977 was released on March 14th, 2008 at a grand event in Chennai. The trailer was released by producer R.B. Chowdry and received by director K.S. Ravikumar and Film Chamber president KRG. The film stars Namitha and newcomer Farzhana opposite me. I play a dual role of father and son and appears in 6 different getups in the film. Yesteryear actor Jayasudha, who had decided to quit films, agreed to act in this film after hearing the story. My friend and long time co-actor Vijaykumar appears in a crucial role in this film. The two of us together have given several superhits and I hope that this film too will add to that list.

The film is directed by debutant Dinesh Kumar, a popular ad film maker. The cinematographer for the film is Bubathy who is a big name in Telugu film industry having done more than 20 big budget films there. The lensman has shot the film entirely in super 35 mm which is the latest in cinematography.

The film was shot for 60 days in Malaysia. We also planning to dub the film in Chinese and Malay as many artistes from Malaysia are involved in this film. Here I wish to clarify that there is no politics in the film and it is a clean action entertainer.

We will be releasing the music of the film next month and the film itself in June.

On February 10th the first political meeting of my party Agila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi(AISMK) was held at Manamagil Hall in Madurai. The day long celebration began with the hoisting the party flag by me followed by the lighting of the lamp by my wife Radikaa, who has been a pillar of support through all my endeavours. This was followed by several noted poets reading some of their works. Next was a cultural program and a light music show by Thenisai Thendral Deva. Later various members of my party addressed the gathering.

I am very happy that the Mega Star Nites in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore made the last month of 2007 memorable. The shows marking the 75 years of Tamil Cinema were well recieved by the fans in these cities. I thank all the artistes who participated in the show and made it such a big success.

As president of Nadigar Sangam, I am very happy to announce about the Mega Star Nites in Malaysia and Singapore on the 21st and 23rd of this month respectively. Several Tamil Cine stars would be a part of these two shows. Dance Master Kala and her team will perform the choreography for the event. Furthermore, the Actors’ Associations and Producers’ Councils of Malayalam and Telugu cinema industries have pledged their support towards this mega event. Along with Nadigar Sangam, Galatta Global Events and Radaan Mediaworks are also involved in this venture.

Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation is an inspiration to every Indian. On the occasion of his 138th birth anniversary, I offer my respects to the great leader. I visited his statue at Marina Beach along with my party members and offered flowers at his feet.

October 1st is celebrated as World Heart Day. On this day I arranged for health check-up for members of the Nadigar Sangam. The cinema people undergo lots of stress in their work. And excessive stress takes a toll on the heart. So I felt that it was important for them to have this check-up.

I may have become a politician, but I am still an actor. Nam Nadu is my first film since I launched my political party.The film is the remake of the Malayalam film, Lion. This is no cop story but instead has a political flavour. The movie tells the story of a father and son, who in spite of being in the same political party, have different and independent political views. I asssure you that the movie is not based on any real-life incidents or persons.

All of those who thought that I will give up my film career for politics, you couldn't be more wrong. I am doing a couple of fims which include, the Diwali release Vaidheeshwaran and the Malayalam flick Pazhassi Raja. In 2008, watch out for Dinesh’s 1977, scheduled for release on Tamil New Year’s, followed by movies with K.S. Ravikumar and Gautham Menon.

I launched Akila India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK) in Chennai on August 31, 2007. The party is launched with a promise of establishing a clean, corruption- free transparent political party The red-yellow party flag with a white star in the red portion was also introduced. The inaugural lamp was lit by my wife Radikaa. The main-office bearers of the party were also introduced on the occasion. The rally was well attended by my supporters.

My fans and well-wishers are aware that I am also interested in serving the people by active participation in politics. On 4th June, 2007, I met the Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. N. Gopalasamy at his office at New Delhi. Mr. A. Narayanan, Mr. N. Murugan, IAS (Retd.), Mr. K. R. Nagaraaj and Mr. S. Raveendran Duraisamy accompanied me to this meeting. The CEC was kind enough to meet us and discuss with us the various aspects of the on-going delimitation process with particular reference to Tamil Nadu. We also met other officials of the Election Commission and got some clarifications that may be necessary for registering a political party with the Commission. With your blessings and support, my role here is also set to improve. Stay tuned to my site for updated and authentic information.

After the role of Venkatesh, the middle class man caught in family turmoil in Pachaikilli Muthucharam, I have now decided to take a step into a patriotic role with Nam Naadu.

Yes, this is my next project, whose pooja was conducted on May 2, 2007 – my wife Radikaa lit the lamp to start the pooja. With Suresh in the director’s chair, Srikanth Deva composing the music, I am excited about Nam Naadu and can’t wait to begin shooting. Whatever naysayers may say, I really think we need meaningful movies that talks about the richness of life right here in our country, amongst our communities, thus this movie. Let’s face it, we need some boost, push, encouragement to bring that “swadesh” inspiration into us, especially amongst our youth; lest we submerge under cultural confusion and materialism. I have always received immense support from all my fans for my various experimental projects Apart from movies, I have always had a special interest towards politics. The stone laying ceremony of the Kamaraj Memorial Hall was something I had been planning to do for a long time. Many well wishers came forward to donate liberally. It is very sad, that the knowledge today’s youth have about Kamaraj in minuscule. Kamaraj ruled the state for nine years and I have chosen to form a political party that will aim to bring back the glorious days of Kamaraj rule in the state.

I have never considered anyone as my rival, be it in the film fraternity or in politics. My decision to launch the party will be only to guide the people. The party would aim primarily at changing the mindset of the youth, involving them in politics and the nation building process.

My long cherished dream of the Kamaraj Memorial Hall took shape on April 29th 2007, with the support of my family and well wishers. It has been a tough task but quite satisfying. I had made sure that the posters of the event be put up throughout all the towns in Tamil Nadu. The function that commenced with the lighting of the lamp by my wife, Radikaa proceeded in a smooth manner.

We had the pleasure of former minister Poovaraghavan's presence, who laid the foundation stone of the memorial hall.

I was enthralled seeing the involvement of other prominent personalities like N. Gopala Krishnan, P.K. Krishnan, Dr. Krishnasamy, Thol. Thirumavalavan, whose presence honoured the function.

As the president of Nadigar Sangam I had arranged for this function to honour the state awardees. Sathyaraj, R.M.Veerappan and Aachi Manorama were felicitated at the function, for receiving state awards like the Periyar award for Sathyaraj, MGR award for R.M.Veerappan and a State award and an Honorary doctorate for Manorama. The entire film fraternity old and young alike were present to honour the recipients. I am extremely proud of my film family and we hope to have more such functions in the future.
