Literature gives order to human experience and a short story is a form of literature. It has the power to explore the real you and demands an emotional response from the reader. All of us have a story to tell and my story goes… A short story need not be something that could be told. It should actually carry a message in a simple form, something through its anecdotes or tales.
GOD saves us
There was an Olympic diver, an aspirant for a gold medal in Olympics. He had a friend who was a strong believer in God and was always telling him how miracles do happen, when one surrenders to God. Though a non-believer the diver had no reservations, what so ever to give a patient hearing to his friend who constantly was giving sermons to him about the Almighty.

The Olympics was nearing and it was time for the diver to practice. The diver went to the swimming pool in the night where he always practiced and climbed to the highest point.

As he stretched his hand before his dive he saw his shadow in the form of a cross. Though a non-believer in God he felt for a moment that he should kneel down and pray for his success in the Olympics this time. So he knelt down and prayed.

As he knelt down to pray, the caretaker switched on the lights of the swimming pool and alas! To his surprise the swimming pool was empty. The water had been removed for maintenance work and if he had not spent that brief moment to pray he would have jumped to his death.

The moral is no sooner you kneel down in prayer to God, GOD SAVES YOU.

A selfless effort

One day a man walked towards the mountain range, which was close to his village. As he reached the mountain range he removed a chisel from the bag that he was carrying and started hammering the chisel into the mountain. A passerby seeing this went up to him and curiously asked him what he was doing. The man with the chisel said that he was trying to make a pathway through this mountain for which the passerby answered that there already existed a road around the mountain which would take anybody two days to reach the other side.

The man continued to chisel his way into the mountain and replied that he was trying to chisel his way through the Mountain and wanted to create a road by which people could reach the other side in two hours. The passerby said you may not live to see the road that you are creating and that his efforts would be futile.

The man with the chisel immediately replied that it was not for his benefit that he was creating the road but for the future generations to follow.

THIS IS THE ATTITUDE THAT ALL OF US SHOULD HAVE TO BE SELFLESS IN OUR EFFORTS AND SET EXAMPLES FOR OTHERS TO FOLLOW.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

There lived a successful farmer in a remote village surrounded by green and lush mountains. He would leave early every morning to toil in his fields. Everyone in the village always wondered how he could work so hard. He was happy and contented with his work, his earnings and his family.

One day a childhood friend came to meet him and both of them were reminiscent about their childhood days. After a sumptuous lunch they discussed about their work. His childhood friend convinced the farmer about selling his land and start looking for gold or diamond. The farmer in spite of his wife's advice went ahead and sold his land and left his wife and promised her that he would come back as a millionaire with lots of gold and diamonds for her. The farmer searched and searched for gold and diamond mines and lost all his money that he got from selling his land and returned back to his village empty handed. Before he went home, he wanted to see the land he sold.

When he reached his land he saw a palatial house. On enquiry he came to know that the person who bought his land has become a millionaire. He approached the owner of the house and asked about the secret behind such sudden wealth. The owner recognized the farmer as the person who sold the land and said that he started ploughing the far end of the land near the fence that was untouched. When he started ploughing he came across some stones and on enquiry it was diamonds and that was the secret of how he became so rich. The farmer on hearing this was very disappointed.

MORAL - DON'T LOOK FOR OPPORTUNITIES ELSEWHERE IT MAY BE RIGHT BELOW YOUR FEET.
